Kelly Russell

"Kelly joined the college in 2011 to study Administration Level 3. She had returned to her studies for a career change. Being a mature learner, she already had experience of juggling work, studying and family life. Kelly first became interested in the work of the SU when she undertook 2 weeks work experience in the SU office as part of her course."

2012 - 2014

Health and Wellbeing

  • Worked in collaboration with local organisations for awareness of student wellbeing

 

Safety

  • Organised petitions and campaigned to Dudley MBC for local road safety – Puffin crossing now in place outside Evolve Campus

 

Democracy

  • Supported and worked in collaboration with local Electoral Officers for the ‘Register to Vote’ and ‘Votes at 16’ campaigns.

  • Organised the ‘Dudley Politics Live’ event where local MPs and councillors are invited to take questions from a live audience of young people from local schools and colleges

 

Welfare

  • Kelly was a member of the National Union of Students Welfare Committee expressing students’ concerns on a national scale

  • Lobbied MPs regarding issues affecting students such as Education Maintenance Allowance cuts, the 24+ loan system, Bedroom Tax and collated and presented apprenticeship case studies

  • Debated at the ‘Black Country Youth Unemployment’ event and expressed how unemployment continues to affect students in Dudley

 

Green Impact

  • Worked in collaboration with Dudley College’s senior management team and staff to achieve Dudley      Students’ Union Green Impact ‘Bronze’ Award

 

Charity

  • Organised the charity ‘Dance-a-thon’ and ‘Wax from Hell’ events in support of Dudley White House Cancer Support

  • Coordinated the ongoing and much appreciated ‘Food Bank’ appeal

  • Arranged and promoted Dudley Young Carers ‘Xmas Shoe box’ donations appeal
