Best Person Statement

My name is Kaynat Ahmad. I am the best person for the role of President because I combine experience, commitment, and a deep understanding of what student's need and care about. Over the past 2 years, I have actively contributed to student life through my involvement with the Students’ Union, where I helped organise a variety of events aimed at building a stronger sense of community and enhancing student experience.

As a class representative, I developed key leadership and communication skills, consistently representing student voices and working with staff to address concerns and drive improvements. I know how to listen, advocate, and take initiative—and I do it with dedication and respect. I’ve also had the opportunity to attend national conferences, where I gained insight into how student issues are tackled across the country. These experiences have expanded my vision and motivated me to bring fresh ideas to our Union.

What truly sets me apart is my passion and reliability. I don’t just get involved—I follow through. I work well with others, bring positive energy to every team, and always keep students at the centre of every decision I make.

I am running for SU president because I-truly understand the needs and concerns of our student body. I’m committed to making sure every student feels represented and heard. As president, I won’t just lead from the front-I'll stand beside you, work with you, and fight for what matters to all of us.

I will bring strong leadership, real experience, and a commitment to creating positive change. I will listen, act, and ensure every student’s voice is heard and valued

Manifesto

My name is Kaynat Ahmad. In the last 2 years, I have actively contributed to student life through my involvement with the Student Union, where I helped organise a variety of events aimed at building a stronger sense of community and enhancing student experience. I’ve also had the opportunity to attend national conferences, where I gained insights into how student issues are tackled across the country. I am running for SU president because I truly understand the needs and concerns of our student body. I’m committed to making sure every student feels represented and heard. As president, I won’t just lead from the front-I'll stand beside you, work with you, and fight for what matters to all of us. Here are the key points I will priorities if I elected:

Mental Health and Wellness

This involves championing initiatives directly in the lives of students. Mental health is just as important. Right now, students are overwhelmed by academic pressure, financial stress, loneliness, and limited access to support. Many suffer in silence due to stigma or long wait times for help. By organizing workshops on stress management and resilience and raising awareness about mental health resources through campaigns and making more clubs, create stress-relief initiatives, and normalise mental health conversations.

Train student leaders in mental health first aid or peer counseling.

Create low-pressure spaces for students to talk and decompress.

Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI)

Many students still face discrimination, lack of representation. This leads to isolation, unfair treatment, and missed opportunities. I will work with students to promote awareness and celebrate diversity. Involve students in gathering and analyzing anonymous feedback and lived experiences around inclusion-giving power to the people affected. Collaborate with external diversity organisations for training, speaker events or joint campaigns.

  1. Promote police and events that support cultural understanding and anti-discrimination.

  1. Ensure fair representation in all student bodies and committees.

  1. Host a week of themed events: culture nights, disability awareness sessions, interfaith panels, etc.

  1. Involve student societies from all backgrounds to co-lead.

  1. Create a place where students can post DEI-related ideas, concerns, or personal stories — anonymously or publicly.

  1. Host casual language meetups, food-sharing events, or cultural storytelling circles to celebrate differences and build community

Empower Clubs and Student Leaders.

Many students, especially those who are new to college or feel like they don’t quite fit in, clubs and student organisations can provide a crucial sense of community and belonging, which is vital for their well-being and academic success.

Make it easier for clubs to access funding, book venues, and collaborate. Making dance club for students who love dancing, whether it’s traditional, contemporary, or hip pop. Create feedback mechanisms for clubs and student leaders to provide input and suggestions.

Offer leadership workshops, resources, and recognition for student organizers.

Prioritise safety for all, especially women, LGBTQ+ students, and disabled students.
