Creating Lasting Impact Through Leadership, Community, and Support
Being part of the Student Union (SU) has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my time at university. The SU provided me with a welcoming and supportive environment where I not only grew personally but also had the chance to make a real difference on campus. Surrounded by like-minded people who encouraged and checked in on me, I found opportunities to step into leadership roles and create meaningful change.
As a campus representative, I was given the platform to lead projects, collaborate with others, and build my confidence along the way. The SU created a space where I could connect with people, try new things, and always feel supported.
During my time in the role, I organised the Staff Celebration Awards ceremony, helped plan the Leavers’ Party, and even created personalised Microsoft Teams portals during the Covid-19 pandemic to keep my peers connected. I also took part in regular executive meetings, where we came together to share ideas and support one another.
These experiences were instrumental in helping me develop leadership skills, learn how to delegate tasks, and understand the importance of teamwork. Beyond professional growth, they gave me the chance to make a visible impact on the college community.
Working with new people on big projects and seeing the positive impact it had on everyone was incredibly rewarding. It gave me the confidence to grow, build new skills, and most importantly, feel like I was truly part of a community.
My journey is just one example of how the SU empowers students—by giving us the tools, support, and opportunities to grow while making lasting contributions to university life.
