Dan Wood

"Dan Wood came to Dudley College straight after school to study Public Services Level 3 from 2014 - 16. Dan had no knowledge of the SU prior to standing in the election for President but was encouraged by his tutor who thought it would be a great opportunity for him."

2016 - 2018

Welfare

  • Lobbied the college for Free School Meals ‘cashless card’ system 

  • Organised Dudley College’s STIR ‘Mystery Shopper’. Outcomes were discussed with college managers with the aim to reassure customers that STIR will offer good quality and diverse range of food/drinks which are sold at reasonable costs

  • Conducted a ‘Hate Crime' survey and put in place the ‘Third Party Reporting Centre’ to encourage reporting of any act of hate

  • Organised the ‘Love Your Community’ campaign and ‘Love Your Campus’ survey

 

Democracy

  • Proposed and launched ‘Black Country Students’ Unions’ with the insight to unite students across the Black Country

 

Charity

  • Key lead for the college’s ‘chosen charity’ nominations

  • Organised a charity event which saw staff and students abseil down Evolve campus building in support of The Georgina Unit, Russells Hall Hospital

  • Assisted students with coffee morning fundraising in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support

  • Organised charity bag packs in aid of Save the Children

 

Awards

  • Key lead collating data and attending meetings in advance of the audit for the Quality Students’ Union Award. Dan continued to work with the Students’ Union to achieve the award following the end of his time as President – Dudley Students’ Union was accredited the award in 2019
