Statement of Intent
Candidate for Vice President of Campaign – Dudley Students’ Union

My mission has always been to build systems, structures and opportunities that last beyond my term, making Dudley College more global, more confident and more united. Since last year, this mission has continued to shape my involvement with Dudley Students’ Union and my commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for students. If elected as Vice President of Campaign, I want to take this vision further by turning ambition into practical, sustainable initiatives that empower students, develop future leaders and create a lasting legacy.

1. Dudley Youth Summit – Debate. Negotiate. Influence.

I want to work towards establishing a United Nations-style Youth Summit at Dudley College, where students represent different countries, deliver speeches, debate global challenges, negotiate solutions and vote on resolutions. Topics could include education, climate change, equality and human rights.

This initiative would develop students’ public speaking, critical thinking, diplomacy and teamwork skills while encouraging them to understand perspectives beyond their own. I would explore opportunities to share students’ resolutions with relevant decision-makers, helping turn discussion into meaningful recommendations. Working with the SU and college staff, I would begin by developing a realistic pilot, with the ambition to expand it over time.

2. Student Ideas into Action – From Proposal to Progress.

I believe students should have the opportunity not only to share ideas but also to help bring them to life. I want to develop a pathway through which students can propose projects, campaigns and activities that could positively impact college life.

Working alongside the SU, I would help students assess the feasibility of their proposals, identify potential partners and resources, and plan achievable next steps. Although not every idea will be possible, I would aim to help students understand what can be achieved and how to move forward. This would encourage initiative, strengthen teamwork and give students greater ownership of the changes they want to see.

 3. Beyond Dudley – Connecting Student Leaders Across the UK and Beyond.

I want to explore establishing a Student Leadership Exchange Programme connecting Dudley College’s student union officers, ambassadors and society leaders with their counterparts at other colleges across the UK. Through online exchanges, collaborative workshops and, where feasible, visits, student leaders could share successful campaigns, exchange ideas and learn from different approaches to student representation.

I would begin by approaching potential partner colleges and exploring realistic opportunities for collaboration. If the programme develops successfully and suitable funding and international partnerships become available, I would aim to expand it beyond the UK, creating opportunities for international collaboration and broader cultural understanding.

My mission remains the same, but my ambition is to take it further: to create opportunities that do not end with my term, connections that continue to grow, and a legacy that future student leaders can build upon. Through collaboration, commitment and realistic planning, I want to help make Dudley College more global, more confident and more united.
